This is a simple, repeating stitch pattern worked in the round. The 5 color stripes work well with this stitch pattern to accentuate the texture and movement. Experimenting with color adds a whole new dimension to the thought and intention of a project. This cowl works up quickly and makes a great gift!

What you will need to make the Mika Crochet Cowl Pattern:

• • 710 yds (649m) #3 dk weight yarn
• • G/6 (4mm) crochet hook
• • Yarn needle

Gauge:

Each 12 stitch/6 round pattern repeat is 2.5 in (6.4cm) wide x 3.5 in (8.9cm) tall, after blocking.

Finished Size:

16 in (40.6cm) tall x 32 in (81.3cm) circumference.

Stitch Guide: Chain (ch), slip stitch (slst), double crochet (dc), double crochet 2 together (dc2tog), 3 double crochet cluster (3dc-cl), and single crochet (sc).

Instructions:

With color A, ch 168, slst to first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch1, sc in first ch, *ch3, skip 5 chs, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in next ch, ch3, skip 5 chs, sc in next ch. Rep from * around, replace last sc with slst to top of first sc at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 14 shells

Round 2: With color B, slst in last ch3 sp on round 1. Ch3, dc in next ch3 sp, *ch3, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in next ch2 sp, ch3, dc2tog working one leg in each of the next 2 ch3 sps. Rep from * around, except replace last dc2tog with slst to top of first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 14 shells

Round 3: With color C, slst in last ch3 sp on round 2. Rep round 2. Fasten off.

Round 4: With color D, slst in last ch3 sp on round 3. Rep round 2. Fasten off.

Round 5: With color E, slst to top of first ch3 at beg of round 4, ch1, sc in same st. *(3dc-cl in next dc, ch2, skip next dc, 3dc-cl in next dc, ch2, 3dc-cl in next ch2 sp, ch2, 3dc-cl in next dc, ch2, skip next dc, 3dc-cl in next dc, sc in next dc2tog. Rep from * around, except replace last sc with slst to top of first st at beg of round to join. Do not fasten off.

Round 6: Slst across to first ch2 sp, ch1, sc in same sp. *ch3, sc in next ch2 sp, ch2, sc in next ch2 sp, ch3, sc in next ch2 sp, ch3, sc in next ch2 sp. Rep from * around, except replace last sc with slst to top of first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off.

Round 7: With color A, slst any ch2 sp on round 6, ch1, sc in same sp. *ch3, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in next ch3 sp, ch3, skip 1 ch3 sp, sc in next ch2 sp. Rep from * around, except on last repeat replace last sc with slst to top of first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off.

Round 8: With color B, repeat round 2. Fasten off.

Round 9: With color C, repeat round 2. Fasten off.

Round 10: With color D, rep round 2. Fasten off.

Round 11: With color E, rep round 2. Do not fasten off.

Round 12: Rep round 6. Fasten off. Rounds 13 – 30: Rep rounds 1 – 12 two times, then repeat rounds 1 – 6 once more. Fasten off.

Top Edge: Round 1: Working along free loops of beg ch, join yarn A with slst to any ch, ch3 (counts as dc), work 1dc in ea ch around, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. Round 2: Slst in ea st around. Fasten off.

Finishing: Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
