Inspiration for the Leilani Crochet Shawl Free Crocheting Pattern and Video

I absolutely love fringe. This particularly flower fringe is worked simultaneously with the rows of the shawl for a seamless finish. Especially with color work and stripes, making the fringe within the rows of the pattern allows you to easily match up the colors of the fringe with the stripes, too. This would be a great stash buster if you changed the color after every row; it would be beautiful in a single color, or you could change color every 2 rows like the sample shown. This shawl features 1 ball each of 4 colors of Be So Baby Yarn: orchid, princess, aquamarine and peacock teal.

What you will need to make the Leilani Crochet Shawl FREE Crocheting Pattern:

• 568 yds (519m) #3 dk weight yarn

• I/9 (5.5mm) crochet hook

• Yarn needle

• Scissors

Gauge: Gauge is not critical for this project.

Finished Size:

58 in (147cm) wide x 20 in (51cm) tall, not including 4 in (10cm) flower fringe on each side.

Stitch Guide: 

See crochet glossary for   chain (ch), slip stitch (slst), double treble crochet (dtr) and single crochet (sc).

Flower Fringe: Ch15, slst in 5th ch from hook to form a ring, (ch3, dc, ch3, slst)x4 in ring, ch4, skip next 4 chs, slst in next ch, ch4, skip next 4 chs, slst in last ch.

Leilani Crochet Shawl FREE Crocheting Pattern

Instructions:

Note: Each row begins with a flower fringe.

Note: The stitch pattern (not including flower fringe) begins with a multiple of 8 + 1

Set Up Row: With color A, Ch15, slst in 5th ch from hook to form a ring, (ch3, dc, ch3, slst)x4 in ring, ch4, skip next 4 chs, slst in next ch, ch4, skip next 4 chs, slst in last ch (flower fringe made). Ch185.

Row 1: Flower fringe, sc in first ch, *ch3, skip 3 chs, 2dc in next ch, ch3, skip 3 chs, sc in next ch. Rep from * across. Fasten off.

Row 2: With color B, slst in first sc, flower fringe, slst in same sc, ch5 (counts as dc, ch2), sc in next ch3 sp, ch3, skip 2 dcs, sc in next ch3 sp, *ch5, skip sc, sc in next ch3 sp, ch3, skip next 2 dcs, sc in next ch3 sp. Rep from * across, ch2, dc in last sc.

Row 3: Flower fringe, slst to dc, ch3 (counts as dc), 3dc in same st, sc in next ch3 sp, *7dc in next ch5 sp, sc in next ch3 sp. Rep from * across, 4dc in 3rd ch of ch5 at end of row. Fasten off.

Row 4: With color C, slst to last dc, flower fringe, sc in same dc, ch3, 2dc in next sc, *ch3 skip 3 dcs, sc in next dc, ch3, skip next 3 dcs, 2dc in next sc. Rep from * across, ch3, skip 3 dcs, sc in last dc.

Row 5: Rep row 2. Fasten off.

Row 6: With color D, rep row 3.

Row 7: Rep row 4. Fasten off.

Rows 8 – 29: Rep rows 2 – 4 seven more times, then row 2 once more.

Note: Continue in established color sequence of 2 rows each of color A, B, C, D.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
