What you will need to make the Hibiscus Baby Layette Blanket, Booties and Hat FREE Crochet Pattern :

Blanket:

• 860 yds (786m)  #3 dk weight yarn, 1 ball ea of 4 colors and 3 balls of 5th color.

Hat:

• 115 yds (105m) #3 dk weight yarn, 1 ball each of 4 colors.

Booties:

• 60 yds (55m) #3 dk weight yarn, 1 ball each of 4 colors.

All projects:

• E/4 (3.5mm) crochet hook

• Yarn needle

• Scissors

Be So Baby Yarn; 100% milk (casein) fiber; 142 yds (130m) per 1.75oz (50g); shown in colors A Peach, B Princess, C Orchid, D Diva, E Violet.

Gauge: 

Large motif is 10.5 in (26.7cm) in diameter.

Finished Size:

Blanket: 33 in (83.8cm) square, 2 in (5cm) edging.

Hat: 16 in (40.6cm) circumference x 6 in (15.2cm) tall, size 6 months.

Booties: Sole is 3 in (7.6cm) long x 1 in (2.5cm) wide, size 6 months.

Blanket:

Large Motif (make 9):

With color A, ch6, slst to 1st ch to form ring.

Round 1: Ch1, 16sc in ring. Slst to first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off.  — 16 scs

Round 2: With color B, slst in any st to join, ch4 (counts as dc, ch1), (dc in next st, ch1)x15, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 16 dcs

Round 3: With color C, slst to any dc to join, ch1, sc in same st, (ch3, sc in next dc)x15, ch3, slst to first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 16 ch3 sps

Round 4: With color D, slst to any ch3 sp to join, ch1, sc in same sp, *ch9, sc in next ch3 sp. Rep from * around, ch9, slst to first sc at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 16 ch9 sps

Round 5: With color E, slst in any ch9 sp to join, ch3 (counts as dc), 3dc in same sp, *ch1, 4dc in next ch9 sp. Rep from * around, ch1, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 16 ch1 sps

Round 6: With Color A, slst in any ch1 sp, ch1, sc in same sp, ch3, dc4tog over the next 4 dcs, ch3, *sc in next ch1 sp, ch3, dc4tog over the next 4 dcs, ch3. Rep from * around, slst to first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 16 dc4togs

Round 7: With color B, slst into any ch3 sp, ch1, sc in same ch3 sp, ch5, *sc, in next ch3 sp, ch5. Rep from * around, slst to first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 32 ch5 sps

Round 8: With color C, slst in any ch5 sp, ch1, sc in same sp, 9dc in next ch5 sp, *sc in next ch5 sp, 9dc in next ch5 sp. Rep from * around, slst to first sc at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 16 9dc shells

Round 9: With color D, slst to 3rd of 9 dc on prev round, ch3 (counts as dc), dc in same st, 2dc in next st, ch5, skip 1 st, 2dc in ea of next 2 sts. *Ch1, skip next 5 sts, 2dc in ea of next 2 sts, ch5, skip next st, 2dc in ea of next 2 sts. Rep from * around, ch1, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 16 ch5 sps

Round 10: With Color E, slst to any ch1 sp, ch1, sc in same sp, [(dc, ch1)x6, dc] in next ch5 sp, *sc in next ch1 sp, [(dc, ch1)x6, dc] in next ch5 sp. Rep from * around, slst to first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 16 shells

Note: Follow chart for placement of slip stitch joins on last round when joining to adjacent motifs. Each motif is joined in two shells to adjacent motif for each side joined. When a motif is joined on two sides, notice that you skip 2 shells at the corner between the two sides joined.

Mini Motif (make 4):

With color E, ch6, slst to 6th ch from hook to form ring.

Round 1: Ch3, dc in ring, (ch3, 2dc-cl in ring)x7, ch3, slst to top of first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 8 clusters

Round 2: With color C, slst into any ch3 sp, ch3 (counts as dc), dc in same sp, (ch5, 2dc in next ch3 sp)x7, ch5, slst to first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 8 ch5 sps

Round 3: With color D, slst into any ch5 sp, ch3 (counts as dc), 2dc in same sp, ch5, 3dc in same sp, (3dc, ch5, 3dc) in ea ch5 sp around, slst to top of first st at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 8 ch5 sps

Note: Follow chart for placement of ch5 joins when joining mini motif to large motifs. Notice that 2 ch5 sps are joined to 2 shells each on 4 different motifs.

Half Motifs (make 8):

With color E, ch6, slst to 6th ch from hook to form ring.

Row 1: Ch3, dc in ring, (ch3, 2dc-cl in ring)x5. — 5 ch3 sps

Row 2: Slst into first ch3 sp, ch3 (counts as dc), dc in same sp, (ch5, 2dc in next ch3 sp)x4. — 4 ch5 sps

Row 3: Slst into first ch5 sp, ch3 (counts as dc), (2dc, ch5, 3dc) in same sp, (3dc, ch5, 3dc) in ea ch5 sp across. Fasten off. — 4 ch5 sps

Note: Follow chart for placement of ch5 joins when joining half motif to large motifs.

Edging:

Round 1: With color E, join with slst to 2nd ch1 sp on any shell from last round of a large motif, *ch5, skip 2 ch1 sps, sc in next ch1 sp. Rep from * around, except on half motifs, join on every other round of side of rows. On last repeat, replace sc with slst to top of first st at beg of round to join.

Round 2: Ch16, slst in 6th ch from hook to form a ch5 ring, (ch3, dc in ring, ch3, slst in ring)x4, ch5, slst in 6th ch of beg ch16, ch5, sc in next ch5 sp along round 1 of edging. Rep from * around. On last repeat, replace last sc with slst to top of first st at beg of round.

Round 3: Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea st around, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 48 dcs

Rep round 3 until hat is 5 in (13cm) tall.

Last round: Ch1, sc in same st, *ch4, 3tr-cl in same st, skip next 3 sts, sc in next st. Rep from * around, slst to top of first st at beg of round to join.

With color D, ch6, slst to 6th ch from hook to form ring.

Round 1: Ch3, 2tr in ring, ch3, slst in ring)x4. Fasten off.

Round 6: With color A , join with slst to any slst, ch5, working behind petals on prev round, slst in next slst. Rep from * around. — 4 ch5 sps

Round 7: Slst into next ch5 sp, ch3 (counts as dc), 5dc in same sp, *in next ch5 sp work 6dc. Rep from * around, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 24 dcs

Round 8: Ch18, skip 6 sts, slst in next st. Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea of next 17 sts, 1dc in ea of next 18 chs, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 36 dcs

Round 9: Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea st around, slst to first st at beg of round to join. — 36 dcs

Round 10: Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea of next 6 sts, dc3togx2, 1dc in ea of next 12 sts, dc3togx2, 1dc in ea of next 6 sts, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. Fasten off leaving long tail for seaming. — 28 sts

Fold bootie in half. With right sides facing, sew up seam of the sole.

Cuff:

Round 1: Join with slst in any st or ch around top opening of bootie. Ch3 (does not count as st), 1dc in ea st and ch around, slst to top of first st at beg of round to join. — 24 dcs

Round 2: Ch2 (does not count as st), *fpdc, bpdc. Rep from * around, slst to top of first st at beg of round to join. — 24 dcs

Round 3: Rep round 2. Fasten off.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
