It was a long hot summer in many parts of the country. Many of us are more than ready for some chilly fall weather, warm mugs of cocoa, fuzzy throw blankets, and of course my favorite – hand knit or crocheted winter wear! Scarves, hats, gloves, cowl neck warmers, sweaters, blankets… the list goes on and on!
If you are picking up on the fact that I am excited, you are completely right. This time of year is perfect for my patterns to turn into your very own wearable creations.
You choose the yarn, the pattern, and customize away! October is a great time to make a list if you plan on making any hand made holiday gifts as well, there is still plenty of time.
One time-tested favorite is the winter hat. So, I wanted to share a video I did a few years back that got a huge response. How to make a basic knit hat in rows and rounds.
This video is great for beginners or for the more advanced crowd. I cover how to complete the hat in rows for the novice or in rounds for those who already have this down. For this lesson I use a bulky yarn and a pair of size 13 knitting needles. You can do this pattern with regular straight needles but If you plan on working in rounds a 16” circular is perfect. With round needles there is no sewing at all. Tip: most hats are bout a 20” circumference. Therefor the 16” circular needles can easily accommodate all of the stitches.
For a very creative gift I am also adding in the video directions to create some Juni Fingerless Mitt Crocheted Gloves. These are wonderful for times when you have to be able to use your fingers and yet still would like some added warmth. They are an ideal gift for those who work in offices where they don’t have individual control over the thermostat. This unique pattern is embossed with beautiful little flowers to complete the pattern.
Be So Baby Yarn is ideal for hats – Check out the color selection!
Juni Fingerless Mitts Crochet Pattern Filet Crochet with Embossed Flowers
This is a filet crochet structured stitch pattern. The flowers are worked simultaneously on to the surface of the fabric as you go. It’s a really fun pattern to watch emerge!
Check out the new colors available in Be So Toasty Yarn! Great for the fingerless mitts & other projects
This pattern is pulled from my book 52 Crocheted Gifts. https://www.kristinomdahl.com/books/52-crochet-gifts-paperback-book
