Eliana Octagon Crochet Motif Possibilities

The Eliana Crochet Dress Pattern features a beautiful octagon, 8-sided, motif in the skirt that has many possibilities for gorgeous crochet fabrics. I released a tutorial video for this large motif to help supplement the pattern for anyone who likes a little extra help getting started. As I was making a fresh motif for the video tutorial, I thought it would be helpful bonus material if I showed you how you can make other fabrics and other configurations of this motif for shawls, afghans or other 2-dimensional fabrics, too.

Depending on whether you want to join the motifs in columns or offset, it also offers more possibilities as well.

In the column formation, notice there are gaps between the motifs. The Eliana Crochet Dress Pattern includes a mini motif for filing these holes in the fabric design. Notice that both offset formations do not have gaps between the motifs. Any of these four configurations would make a beautiful fabric with the Eliana large motif in any weight yarn.

Joining Motifs:

Use the schematics and charts provided below as well as in the pattern as your guide for joining each motif together. Replace the ch3 sps on the large motifs with ch3 joins. On the small motifs, replace the ch5 sps with ch5 joins and replace the ch11 sps with ch11 joins.
