What you will need:

• 220 yds (201.2m) #3 dk weight yarn
• G/7 (4.5mm) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Shown in:  

Be So Airy Yarn; 230 yds (110m) per 4oz (113gm); 100% polypropylene rope, #3 dk weight yarn; color Sandcastles, 1 ball.

Finished Size:

20 in (50.8cm) circumference, 10 in (25.4cm) tall 

Gauge: 

Gauge: 14 sts / 2 rounds = 4 in (10cm) in half double crochet in the round

Stitch Guide: 

Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), treble crochet (tr) and slip stitch (slst).

Instructions:

Crown:

Note: Hat is worked in spirals that do not join at the end of each round through round 13.

Round 1: Ch5, slst to 5th ch from hook to form ring, ch1, work 1sc and 11 hdc in ring. Do not join. — 12 sts

Round 2: 2hdc in ea st around. Do not join. — 24 sts

Round 3: *2hdc in next st, 1hdc in next st. Rep from * around. Do not join. — 36 sts

Round 4: *2hdc in next st, 1hdc in ea of next 2 sts. Rep from * around. Do not join. — 48 sts

Round 5: *2hdc in next st, 1hdc in ea of next 3 sts. Rep from * around. Do not join. — 60 sts

Round 6: *2hdc in next st, 1hdc in ea of next 4 sts. Rep from * around. Do not join. — 72 sts

Walls:

Round 7: *Sc in next st, skip 2 sts, 5tr in next st, skip 2 sts. Rep from * around slst to top of sc at beg of round to join. — 12 5-tr shells, 12 scs

Round 8: Slst across to center tr of first 5tr shell, ch1, sc in same st, *5tr in the next sc, sc in the center tr of the next 5tr shell. Rep from * around, slst to top of first sc at beg of round to join. — 12 5tr-shells, 12 scs

Round 9: Ch4 (counts as first tr, 4tr in same st, sc in the center tr of the next 5tr shell, 5tr in next sc. Rep from * around, sc in center of last 5tr shell, slst to top of first sc at beg of round to join. — 12 5tr-shells, 12 scs

Rounds 10 – 13: Rep rounds 8 – 9 two more times.

Brim:

Round 14: Slst across to center tr of first 7tr shell, ch1, sc in same st, 7tr in next sc, sc in the center tr of the next 7tr shell. Rep from * around, slst to top of first sc at beg of round to join. — 12 7tr-shells, 12 scs

Round 15: Ch4 (counts as first tr), 6 tr in same st, sc in the center tr of the next 5tr shell, *7tr in the next sc, sc in the center tr of the next 5tr shell. Rep from * around, slst to top of ch4 at beg of round to join. — 12 7tr-shells, 12 scs

Rounds 16 – 18: Rep rounds 14 – 15 once, then round 14 once more. 

Fasten off.

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends.
