What You’ll Need

  • Yarn: Choose any weight yarn depending on your project.
    • Lightweight yarns: Great for lacy shawls or delicate wraps.
    • Worsted weight: Perfect for cozy scarves or baby blankets.
    • Chunky yarns: Ideal for warm throws or oversized wraps.
  • Hook: Use a hook size that complements your chosen yarn weight (check the yarn label for recommendations).
  • Notions: Scissors, yarn needle for weaving in ends, and stitch markers (optional).

Stitch Guide

Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), 3 double crochet together (3dc-tog) and 4 double crochet together (4dc-tog).

Understanding the Stitch Multiple

This pattern is worked in a stitch multiple of 14 + 4.

  • The “14” means the main repeat is 14 stitches wide.
  • The “+4” is for the additional stitches required to balance the design.

To customize the width of your project:

  1. Multiply 14 by the number of repeats you want.
  2. Add 4 stitches for the edge balance.

For example:

  • For 2 repeats, cast on 14×2+4=32,  stitches.
  • For 4 repeats, cast on 14×4+4=60,  stitches.

Best Yarns for the Heart Lace Stitch

  • Solid colors: Highlight the intricate heart design beautifully.
  • Gradient yarns: Create a stunning ombré effect, especially in larger projects like shawls or blankets.
  • Variegated yarns: Work well for smaller projects like scarves but may obscure the heart shapes in larger, more complex pieces.
