Research shows that we, as Americans, spend as much as 12 hours a day in front of a TV, computer, smart phone, tablet, or gaming system. That begs the question, shouldn’t we be purposely aiming for activities and hobbies that enrich our lives and don’t involve adding even more screen time to our daily lives?
In choosing to learn to knit or crochet you may need some guidance and instruction at first (and that is what I am virtually here for of course) but as you get going, learn your craft and stitches you will become an independent non connected free craft artist who can work on their projects anywhere at any time.
Text neck (forward head positioning) as well as hand pain and carpal tunnel syndrome are becoming a widely spread problem not just for older people but for teens as well. Phones, tablets, and keyboards keep your body locked in the same position for hours on end with repetitive use. It’s just plain bad for your body mechanics.
Creating via crochet and knitting works your hands, arms, and shoulders in a different manner and doesn’t force your head to angle in an unnatural position. You can sit back on a comfortable chair, sofa, lay a blanket down on the beach, you can work anywhere you are comfortable and you can move and switch it up at any time.
Once you learn the basics you can make beautiful pieces all on your own, even if the internet is out!
Here are just a couple “how to” videos to get you started on your path to crafting independence.
Need some more guidance? I am always here!
I host a livestream podcast Monday – Friday on my YouTube Channel called Create Share Inspire Podcast. You can join the audience LIVE and even ask me questions LIVE! I often do a show and tell or quick demo and I always interact with the live audience. It is a lot of fun!
You can browse through over 600 previously recorded episodes HERE: Create Share Inspire Podcast Playlist . Make sure to subscribe to my YouTube Channel to get reminders when the next episode airs LIVE. I also created a private Facebook group called Create Share Inspire to allow my audience to continue the podcast party throughout the rest of the day. It is a wonderful and safe place to share your photos of finished projects in my knitting or crochet patterns or yarns, and to see what others are making, too.
I would also like to invite you to join this private group Create. Share. Inspire on Facebook where you can interact with me as well as many other members who have a love of knitting and crochet just like you!
The more you learn and interact ultimately the more of an independent artisan you will be. I look forward to our journey together!
