Materials:
(2) hanks Be So Brave Yarn; 100% pure American Merino Wool #4 medium; 120 yds (109m) per 2oz (56g);
color A Plymouth Rock (1 hank)
color B Lincoln Lime (1 hank)
K/10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook
Yarn needle

#3 DK Weight Yarn

Be So Baby Yarn

 

Gauge: 1 shell is approx 1.5” wide x 1” tall

Finished size: 26” circumference x 9” tall

Stitch Abbreviations:

CH chain; SC single crochet; DC double crochet; SLST slip stitch;

Instructions:

 

Foundation ovals: with color A, *ch3, dc in 3rd ch from hook. Rep from * 21 more times. Slst to first ch at beg of round to join. — 22 foundation ovals

Round 1: Slst into first foundation oval, ch3 (counts as dc), (1dc, ch1, 2dc) in same sp, ch3, skip next foundation oval, *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next foundation oval, ch3, skip next foundation oval. Rep from * around, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 11 shells

Elongate the loop from the last stitch and set to the front of work, leaving the working yarn to the back of the work. This will be used every other round, so elongating the loop will protect it from unraveling as you work the second color. Do not fasten off.

Round 2: Join color B with a slst to the first skipped foundation oval (the 2nd oval made), ch3 (counts as dc), (1dc, ch1, 2dc) in same sp, ch3, skip shell on prev round, *work (2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next foundation oval skipped, working around the ch3 sp from prev round (sandwiching it inside your stitches), ch3, skip shell on prev round. Rep from * around, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 11 shells

Round 3: Slide color A loop back onto the crochet hook, ch3 (counts as dc), (1dc, ch1, 2dc) in same ch1 sp, ch3, skip shell on prev round, *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) in ch1 sp on next same color shell 2 rounds below), ch3, skip shell on prev round. Rep from * around. Slst to ch3 at beg of round to join. — 11 shells

Rep from * around. Slst to ch3 at beg of round to join. — 11 shells

Rounds 5 – 20: rep rounds 3 – 4 eight more times. Fasten off color B at the end of round 20.

 

Edging:

Round 21: Slide color B loop back onto the crochet hook, ch3 (counts as dc), work 8 additional dcs in same sp, ch1, skip shell on prev round, work 9dc in ch1 sp on next same color shell 2 rounds below, ch1, skip shell on prev round. Rep from * around, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join.

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and let dry.
