The Iona 2 Row Repeat Easy Crochet Shawl Pattern is the second pattern variation from the Crochet Design Challenge series. Your votes guided me to design the Iona Crochet Draped Vest Pattern in color stitch A and here is a top down triangle shawl design using the same stitch pattern. This design features four increases on every other row for a beautifiully shaped triangle shawl. Use any variety of colors for a spectacular striped effect or stash buster, too!
What you will need to make this easy 2 row repeat crochet shawl pattern:
- 650 yds (594m) #4 dk weight yarn
- K/10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors

You can use any weight yarn to make this gorgeous and beginner friendly, 2 Row Repeat Easy Crochet Shawl Pattern. Simply repeat rows 2 and 3 until the shawl is your desired size. Use the yarn estimate guide below to determine the amount of yarn you will need to make this shawl in a similar size with various weights of yarn.
Gauge:
13 sts / 3.5 rows = 4 in (10cm) in pattern, after blocking.
Gauge is not critical for this project. You can make this in any weight yarn an dsimply stop when the shawl is your desired size. Here are some suggested size recommendations for top down triangular shawls:
Suggested Shawl sizes:
Kerchief: 36 in (91cm) wide x 18 in (46cm) long
Shawlette: 24 in (61cm) – 30 in (76cm) wide x 48 in (122cm) to 60 in (152cm) wide
Full sized shawl: 36 in (91cm) – 40 in (102cm) long x 72 in (183cm) to 80 in (203cm) wide
62 in (157cm) wide x 24 in (61cm) long.
Stitch Guide:
Chain (ch), slip stitch (slst), double crochet (dc), foundation oval (fo) and treble crochet (tr).
Pattern notes:
Weave in loose ends as work progresses
Turn work at the end of each row.

Set up row: *Ch3, dc in 3rd ch from hook. Rep from * six more times. – 7 foundation ovals
Row 1: Ch1, sc in first fo, 5dc in next fo, sc in next fo, 5tr in next fo (mark this as center shell with a stitch marker), sc in next fo, 5dc in next fo, sc in last fo.
Row 2: Ch5 (counts as dc, ch2), (dc, ch2, dc) in same st, *ch2, skip 2 sts, sc in next st, ch2, skip 2 sts, (dc, ch2, dc, ch2, dc) in next st.
Row 3: Ch1, sc in first st, (5dc in next st, sc in next st)x3, 5tr in next st, sc in next st, (5dc in next st, sc in next st)x3.

Rows 8 – 29: Rep rows 6 – 7 eleven more times.
Note: Rep rows 6 – 7 for desired length of shawl.
Finishing:
Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.
