This is a beautiful crochet shawl worked from the bottom up. The motifs are crocheted first, then the shawl is crocheted in decreasing rows. The pattern is written to be easily adaptable: add more motifs for a larger shawl. The repeat for the rows is an even multiple of 17 sts per motif.

What you will need:

• 612 yds (560m) #4 worsted weight yarn
• K/10.5 (6.5mm) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Instructions:

First Motif:

Ch5, slst to 5th ch from hook to form ring.

Round 1: Ch3 (counts as dc), 15dc in ring, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 16 dcs

Round 2: Ch3 (counts as dc), dc in same st, *ch2, skip 1dc, 2dc in next dc. Rep from * around, ch2, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 16 dcs, 8 ch2 sps

Row 3: Ch3 (counts as dc) 1dc in same st, 2dc in next dc, *ch3, 2dc in ea of the next 2 dcs. Rep from * around, ch3, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 32 dcs, 8 ch3 sps

Round 4: Ch3 (counts as dc), 1dc in ea of next 3 dcs, *ch5, 1dc in ea of next 4 dcs. Rep from * around, ch5, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 32 dcs, 8 ch5 sps

Round 5: Ch3, dc3tog over next 3 dcs (counts as first dc4tog), ch3 picot, *ch3, sc in next ch5 sp, ch3, dc4tog over next 4 dcs, ch3 picot. Rep from * around, ch3, sc in next ch5 sp, ch3, slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 16 ch3 sps, 8 ch3 picots

Fasten off.

Second – Ninth Motifs:

Rounds 1 – 4: Rep rounds 1 – 4 of first motif.

Round 5: Rep round 5 of first motif, except replace 2 ch3 picots with joining ch3 picots, using the joining motif chart as your guide.

Fasten off.
