Linda Mobius Cowl Crochet Pattern with Crochet Chain Loop Braided Edging from 52 Crochet Gifts Book

Linda Mobius Crochet Pattern with Chain Loop Braided Edging from 52 Crochet Gifts Book

Two-color stripes are a wonderful way to demonstrate the magical construction of a mobius cowl! Foundation ovals are clever for the set up row. The starting chain is replaced with a prettier and stretchier beginning. The stripes grow from the center out because of the figure-8 formation of a twisted mobius cowl. And the unique edging is worked in both colors to create a 3-dimensional, braided edging.

I chose complementary colors for a sophisticated look but if you watch the tutorial video I demonstrate the crochet chain loop braided edging technique in contrast colors. Here you can see how bold and graphic this edging can be! Imagine making this in black and white, or opposite colors on the color wheel, or team colors? Or a more subtle contrast would be a lighter and darker shade of the same color.

Choosing Colors for the Linda Mobius Cowl Crochet Pattern

#1 Fingering Weight Yarn

Be So Fine Yarn

This project features Be So Fine Yarn, which comes in dozens of colors. I chose Stormy Sea and Lilac Memories color ways for the Linda Mobius Cowl Crochet Pattern. In the video tutorial for the crochet chain loop braided edging technique, I feature colors Passionate Plum and Tropical Hot Coral. To make it in black and white, you could choose colors Chantilly Lace and Raven. And for lighter and darker shades of the same color, consider Pink Damask with Parisian Bordeaux, Harbor Fog with Jaded Peacock, or Celestial Blue Mist with Blue Danube, just to name a few! In this video I show you step by step how to create the edging crochet loops, in 2 different colors along the same edge of the Mobius cowl. Then I show you how to loop the loops together to create the beautiful braided loop edging. And finally, show you how to secure the last loop.

This video is included in a playlist on my YouTube Channel called 52 Crochet Gifts Book Playlist. In this playlist, I will be adding the supplemental video tutorials for each pattern in my newest book, “52 Crochet Gifts”.

Caring for your Linda Mobius Cowl Crochet Pattern Finished Project:

After you weave in your loose ends, hand wash the finished Linda Mobius Cowl in a tsp of Be So Clean Soap in lukewarm water. Allow it to soak for a few minutes to absorb the liquid. Remove the cowl from the water, squeeze out the excess water being careful not to twist the yarn. Using fresh towels, press the excess moisture out of the fabric. Place the cowl flat on a dry surface, adjust the shape to the finished measurements and allow to dry. Because the nature of this type of project must be double thickness when flat, it will increase the drying time required. Add circulating air from a ceiling fan or oscillating floor fan to speed up the drying time.
