Fine Flower Power Crochet Headband FREE Pattern

The double treble cluster flowers are so beautiful and a great technique to learn for all sorts of projects and edgings. What better way to learn a new technique than with a small project! The Flower Power Headband is feminine, delicate and works up quickly. Make them in a variety of colors to complement your entire summer wardrobe! They make fabulous gifts, too!

Materials:
1 (partial hank) Be So Fine Yarn; 100% bamboo yarn, fingering weight; 650 yds per 4oz hank; shown in color Stormy Sea
or
order a Be So Fine TIDBIT here (miniature center pull ball of Be So Fine Yarn)
C/2 (2.75mm) crochet hook
Yarn needle

Gauge: 5 scs = 1″

Finished size: 2″ x 45″ (including ties

Special Stitch Instructions:

Double Treble Crochet (dtr): Wrap the yarn over the hook 3 times and insert the hook into the specified stitch (or sixth chain from hook). *yo hook and draw it through 2 loops. Repeat from * 3 times to complete the stitch.

Beginning dtr cluster (ch6, 2dtr cluster): ch6 (counts as first dtr), yox3, insert hook into specified stitch, yo and pull up a loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops on hook)x3, *yox3, insert hook into same st, yo and pull up a loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops on hook)x3. Rep from * once more (3 loops on hook).

NOTE: work 2dtr-cl into 6th chain from hook, stopping one step short of completing each stitch (3 loops on hook). This petal will eventually be completed with another petal.

3 Double Treble Cluster (3dtr-cl): yox3, insert hook into specified stitch, yo and pull up a loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops on hook)x3, *yox3, insert hook into same st, yo and pull up a loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops on hook)x3. Rep from * 1 once more (3 additional loops on hook). Yo, pull through all loops on hook.

NOTE: how many loops you pull through on last step is determined by how many petals you are making at the same time.

Instructions:
Ch 78
Row 1: First petal: Work beginning cluster, skip next 5 chains of starting chain.
Second petal: Work 3dtr-cluster into next chain (6 loops on hook – 3 each from beg cluster and dtr-cluster). This second petal will point down and to the left towards your starting chain. Complete these first two petals by drawing a loop snugly through all 6 loops, then tightly work one more chain to hold them together.
Note: This chain will be the flower center you will work the other petals into in the next row. *Third petal (horizontal petal) is worked the same as the first petal: work beginning cluster, leaving 3 loops left on hook.
Fourth petal: Work a dtr cluster in the same space as second petal, leaving 3 loops left on hook.
Fifth petal: skip 5 ch spaces, work dtr cluster into next ch space, leaving 3 loops left on hook (9 loops total). Complete these three petals by drawing a loop snugly through all 9 loops, then tightly work one more chain to hold them together. Note: this chain will be the flower center you will work the other petals into in the next row.*
Repeat from * to * to the end of the starting chain. Turn.

Row 2: Work Beg Cluster Petal and finish (one loop only on hook). Work Fourth Petal (from row 1) into 1st stitch, and petal 5 into next stitch. *ch5, work petal 4 into same stitch, petal 5 into next stitch. Repeat from * across to last
stitch. Ch5, 3dtr-cl into same space.

Border:
Round 1: ch5, work 5dc into each ch5 space, and 1dc in ea st around, working (ch5 around each short end. Slst to first dc at beg of round to join. Fasten off.

Ties:

Row 1: Join with slst to either end’s ch5 sp. Ch4 (counts as tr), work 3tr in same sp.

Row 2: turn, slst into sp between 2nd and 3rd st from prev row, ch4 (counts as tr, 3tr in same sp.

Rows 3 – 18: rep row 2. Turn, slst into sp between 2nd and 3rd st from prev row. Fasten off.

Finishing:
Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and let dry.
