Nikki Easy Crochet Scarf Pattern by Kristin Omdahl

What you will need:

  • 210 yds (192m) #1 fingering weight yarn
    or
    545 yds (498m) #5 bulky weight yarn
  • F/5 (3.75mm) crochet hook
    or
    L/11 (8mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Be So Fine TIDBIT; 100% bamboo yarn; 210 yds per 1.3oz (37g) ball; shown in color Stormy Sea, 1 ball.

Be So Easy Yarn; 145 yds (132m) per 3.5oz (100gm); 100% milk cotton, #5 bulky weight yarn; color Black, 4 balls.

Gauge: 

Gauge is not critical for this project.

Finished Size:

Small Scarf: 4in (10cm) wide x 52 in (132cm) long, after blocking

Large Scarf: 12 in (30.5cm) wide x 92 in (233.7cm) long, including fringe.

Stitch Guide: 

Chain (ch), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), treble crochet (tr), and slip stitch (slst).

Ch3 picot: Ch3, sc in 3rd ch from hook.

Instructions:

First half of scarf:

Note: The bulky weight yarn scarf is worked with 11 pattern repeats per  side and the fingering weight yarn scarf is worked with 13 pattern repeats per side.

Note: This stitch pattern has a multiple of 8+2, if you are interested in modifying the size.

Note: This scarf is worked from the center out. The second half of the scarf is begun from the opposite side of the same beginning chain. This makes the edging mirrored beautifully.

First half of scarf:

Row 1: Ch26, sc in 2nd ch from hook, ch1, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch, ch5, skip 3 chs, sc in next ch. *Ch3, skip 3 chs, sc in next ch, ch5, skip 3 chs, sc in next ch. Rep from * across, ch1, skip 1 ch, sc in last ch. — 3 ch5 sps

Row 2: Ch1, sc in first sc, 11dc in ch5 sp, *sc in ch3 sp two rows below, 11 dc in ch5 sp. Rep from * across, sc in last sc. — 3 11dc shells

Row 3: Ch6 (counts as tr, ch2), skip 3 dcs, sc in next dc, ch3, skip 3 dcs, sc in next dc, *ch5, skip 7 sts, sc in next dc, ch3, skip 3 dcs, sc in next st. Rep from * across, ch2, tr in last sc. — 2 ch5 sps

Row 4: Ch3 (counts as dc), 5dc in ch2 sp, *sc in center dc of 11dc shell 2 rows below (around the ch3 on row below), 11dc in next ch5 sp. Rep from * across, sc in center dc on 11dc shell 2 rows below, 5dc in ch2 sp, dc in 4th ch of beg ch6. — 2 11dc shells, 2 6dc half shells

Row 5: Ch1, sc in first dc, ch1, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch5, skip 7 sts, sc in next dc, *ch3, skip 3 dcs, sc in next dc, ch5, skip 7 sts, sc in next dc. Rep from * across, ch1, skip 1 dc, sc in 3rd ch of beg ch3. — 3 ch5 sps

Row 6: Ch1, sc in first sc, 11dc in next ch5 sp, *sc in center dc of 11dc shell 2 rows below (around the ch3 on row below), 11dc in next ch5 sp. Rep from * across, sc in last sc. — 3 11dc shells

Rows 7 – 50 (58): Rep rows 3 – 6 ten (thirteen) more times. Fasten off.

Second half of scarf:

Row 1: Working in opposite side of beginning chain, join with slst in first ch, sc in same ch, *11dc in ch3 sp, sc in same ch as sc on opposite side of scarf. Rep from * across. — 3 11dc shells

Note: Row 1 on second half of scarf is a repeat of row 2 on first half of scarf.

Row 2: Ch6 (counts as tr, ch2), skip 3 dcs, sc in next dc, ch3, skip 3 dcs, sc in next dc, *ch5, skip 7 sts, sc in next dc, ch3, skip 3 dcs, sc in next st. Rep from * across, ch2, tr in last sc. — 2 ch5 sps

Row 3: Ch3 (counts as dc), 5dc in ch2 sp, *sc in center dc of 11dc shell 2 rows below (around the ch3 on row below), 11dc in next ch5 sp. Rep from * across, sc in center dc on 11dc shell 2 rows below, 5dc in ch2 sp, dc in 4th ch of beg ch6. — 2 11dc shells, 2 6dc half shells

Row 4: Ch1, sc in first dc, ch1, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch5, skip 7 sts, sc in next dc, *ch3, skip 3 dcs, sc in next dc, ch5, skip 7 sts, sc in next dc. Rep from * across, ch1, skip 1 dc, sc in 3rd ch of beg ch3. — 3 ch5 sps

Row 5: Ch1, sc in first sc, 11dc in next ch5 sp, *sc in center dc of 11dc shell 2 rows below (around the ch3 on row below), 11dc in next ch5 sp. Rep from * across, sc in last sc. — 3 11dc shells

Rows 6 – 49 (57): Rep rows 2 – 5 ten (thirteen) more times. 

Note: Both sides of scarf will end on a row 6 of the stitch pattern.

Note: You can fasten off at the end of row 49 (57) or add the fringe and edging (as shown in the bigger scarf).

Fringe Edging Round: *Ch10, sc in 3rd ch from hook, ch7, sc in next st. Rep from * across, pivot work to crochet along end of rows, work 1sc in ea sc end of row, 3sc in ea tr end of row, 2sc in ea dc end of row across, pivot work to crochet along last row of first half of scarf, *ch10, sc in 3rd ch from hook, ch7, sc in next st. Rep from * across row, pivot work to crochet along end of rows, work  1sc in ea sc end of row, 3sc in ea tr end of row, 2sc in ea dc end of row across, slst to first sc at beg of round to join. Fasten off. 

Finishing:

Weave in loose ends. Hand wash, block to finished measurements and allow to dry.

    Love it! I think the second half instructions are missing on the PDF.
    It’s not a big deal for me but some new to crochet might have a problem.

    Hi Kristin! I love this scarf. I just made it using another brand of yarn, a size 4 weight and a L hook and am so in love with it. I made it to give away to an acquaintance for a thank you, but I will most definitely be making this again. It’s beautiful. Great instructions too.
