The Bonita Brave Knit Scarf is a gorgeous lace scarf with fringe that makes such a cheerful and positive statement in color way Flamingo of Be So Brave Yarn. As I was knitting this scarf, I got stopped at least once a day by strangers admiring the beautiful color. The twisted fringe is so fun to play with when wearing the scarf, too. This scarf features a deceptively simple knit lace stitch pattern, offset by 1 stitch every other pattern row. The pattern includes the stitch pattern multiple so you can easily modify this pattern to enlarge it. I think it would be a wonderful shawl if doubled widthwise (perhaps in Be So Fine or Be So Sporty Yarn) or it would be stunning as a square baby blanket in Be So Tender Yarn.

What you will need:
4 balls of Be So Brave Yarn; 100% American Merino Wool; 120 yds per 2oz; color Flamingo
US10 (6mm) knitting needles (found here)
Fringe twister (found here)
Fray check (found here)
yarn needle
sharp scissors

Gauge: 3.5 sts/4 rows = 1″ in blocked lace stitch pattern, but gauge is not critical for this project

Finished size: 60″ long x 12″ wide, not including fringe

NOTE: the stitch pattern used in this scarf has a multiple of 9 plus 4, and the selvedge edge is 2 sts per side. This information is very helpful should you decide to increase the size to make a rectangular shawl/wrap or blanket instead!

Instructions:
CO 44 sts
Row 1: knit across

Row 2: K4, *yo, k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo, k1. Rep from * across to last 4 sts, k4.

Row 3: k2, purl across to last 2 sts: k2.

Row 4: K5, *yo, k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo, k1. Rep from * across to last 3 sts: k3.

Row 5: rep row 3

Rows 6 – 225: rep rows 2 – 5 fifty-five more times.

Row 226 – 227: knit across

Bind off all stitches. Weave in loose ends. Block to finished measurements and let dry.

Fringe:

cut 84 pieces of yarn 18″ long. Using 2 strands at a time, evenly attach fringe to narrow edges of scarf with a slip knot. You should have approx 21 fringes across each side.

WIth fringe twister, attach two strands of each fringe in each of 2 clamps. Twist 14 times. Remove fringe without letting the twist go, and tie all 4 strands of the fringe together in a knot, leaving as little of yarn left over as possible (approx 1/2″). The two sets of twists will twist on each other again for a doubled twist. Repeat for each 4-strand fringe. With sharp scissors trim the edges of each fringe. Add a few drops of fray check for the raw edges.
