What you will need:
(3) hank Be So Sporty Yarn; 100% bamboo, sport weight yarn; 325 yards per 4oz hank; color Million Dollar Red
G/6 (4mm) crochet hook

#2 Sport Weight Yarn

Be So Sporty Yarn

Gauge: each square is 7″ after blocking

Finished size: 16″ wide x 20″ tall x 3″ deep (flat bottom 3×16), 16″ handle drop

Instructions:
Make and join 4 squares into 2 sets of 4×4 squares

First Motif (no joining):
Round 1: Ch5, slst to 5th ch from hook to form ring. Round 1: ch8 (counts as dc, ch5), (dc, ch5)x6 in ring, dc in ring, ch2, dc in top of 3rd ch at beg of round to join. — 8 ch5 sps

Round 2: ch4, 3tr-cluster in same ch5 sp, *ch7, 4tr-cluster in next ch5 sp. Rep from * 6 more times, 4tr-cluster in next ch5 sp, ch3, tr in top of first cluster at beg of round to join. — 8 clusters

Round 3: ch1, sc in same ch5 sp, *(ch5, dc, ch5, tr, ch5, tr, ch5, dc) in next ch5 sp, ch5, sc in next ch5 sp. Rep from * 2 more times, (ch5, dc, ch5, tr ,ch5, tr, ch5, dc) in next ch5 sp, ch2, dc in top of sc at beg of round to join. — 20 ch5 sps

Round 4: ch3 (counts as dc), (dc, hdc, sc) in same ch5 sp, (sc, hdc, 3dc, hdc, sc) in ea of next 19 ch5 sps, sc, hdc, dc in next ch5 sp (same as beg of round), slst to top of ch3 at beg of round to join. — 20 scalloped petals

Round 5: ch1, sc in same sc, (ch5, skip 6 sts, sc in next st)x3, ch5, sc in same st, *(ch5, skip 5 sts, sc in next st)x5, ch5, sc in same st. Rep from * 2 more times, ch5, skip 5 sts, sc in next st, ch5, slst to top of first sc at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 4 ch5 corners

Motif with 1-Sided Joining:

Rounds 1 – 4: rep rounds 1 – 4 of first motif.

Round 5: ch1, sc in same sc, (ch5, skip 5 sts, sc in next st)x3, ch2, slst in center ch of adjacent motif’s corner ch5 sp, ch2, sc in same st on current motif. (Ch2, slst in next ch5 sp on adjacent motif, ch2, sc in next ch5 sp on current motif)x5, ch2, slst in center ch of adjacent motif’s corner ch5 sp, ch2, sc in same st on current motif. *(Ch5, skip 5 sts, sc in next st)x5, ch5, sc in same st. Rep from * once more. Ch5, skip 5 sts, sc in same st, ch5, slst to top of first sc at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 4 ch5 corners

Motif with 2-Sided Joining:

Rounds 1 – 4: rep rounds 1 – 4 of first motif.

Round 5: ch1, sc in same sc, (ch5, skip 5 sts, sc in enxt st)x3, *Ch2, slst in center ch of adjacent motif’s corner ch5 sp, ch2, sc in same st on current motif. (ch2, slst in next ch5 sp on adajcent motif, ch2, sc in next ch5 sp on current motif)x5. Rep from * once more. Ch2, slst in center ch of adjacent motif’s corner ch5 sp, ch2, sc in same st on current motif. (Ch5, skip 5 sts, sc in next st)x5, ch5, sc in same st. Ch5, skip 5 sts, sc in same st, ch5, slst to top of first sc at beg of round to join. Fasten off. — 4 ch5 corners

Repeat for both front and back panels of 4 motif squares.
Row 1: along any side of 4 squares, join with slst in corner, ch1, 3hdc in same ch5 sp corner, (5hdc in next ch5 sp)x4, 2hdc in next corner sp, 1hdc in corner, 2hdc in next corner sp, (5hdc in next ch5 sp)x5, 3hdc in last corner sp. — 66 sts

Rows 2 – 6: ch1, hdc in ea st across. — 66 sts

Fasten off.

Base Panels:
Repeat for both front and back panels of 4 motif squares.
Row 1: along any side of 4 squares, join with slst in corner, ch1, 3hdc in same ch5 sp corner, (5hdc in next ch5 sp)x4, 2hdc in next corner sp, 1hdc in corner, 2hdc in next corner sp, (5hdc in next ch5 sp)x5, 3hdc in last corner sp. — 66 sts

Rows 2 – 12: ch1, hdc in ea st across. — 66 sts

Fasten off.

Side Panels/Straps:

Right side:
Repeat for both front and back panels of 4 motif squares.
Row 1: Join with slst at the end of row 6 of a base panel, ch1, hdc in ea end of row of base panel (6 sts) working toward the side of the motifs, 2hdc in corner sp on next motif, (5hdc in next ch5 sp on motif)x5, 2hdc in next corner sp, 1hdc in corner between motifs, 2hdc in corner sp, (5hdc in next ch5 sp)x5, 2hdc in corner sp, 1hdc in ea end of row of top panel (6 sts), ch 120 (strap), 1hdc in ea end of row of opposite side of top panel (6 sts), 2hdc in corner sp, (5hdc in next ch5 sp)x5, 2hdc in corner sp, 1hdc in corner between motifs, 2hdc in corner sp, (5hdc in next ch5 sp)x5, 2hdc in corner sp, 1hdc in ea of next 6 end of rows of base panel (skip the last 6 rows of base panel). — 142 sts, 120 chs

Row 2: ch1, hdc in ea of next 71 sts, hdc in ea of next 120 chs, hdc in ea of next 71 sts. — 262 sts

Rows 3 – 6: ch1, hdc in ea st across. — 262 sts

Fasten off after first panel. At the end of second panel, do not fasten off.

Assembly:
Holding both sides of bag together, lining up row 6 of both pieces side panels and straps, slst through both thicknesses through every stitch on row 6. Fasten off.

Holding both sides of bag together, lining up row 12 of both pieces base panels, slst through both thicknesses through every stitch on row 6. Fasten off.

Fold opening of corner base of bag so that the side seams are in the center (see photo). Sew seam closed. Repeat for second side.
