Rectangular Knit Lace Shawl with Ruffles FREE Pattern

Materials:
1000 yards worsted weight yarn
US13 (9mm) knitting needles
Yarn needle
scissors
Scrap contrast yarn for provisional cast on
Gauge: 3 sts/ 3 rows – 1” in blocked garter stitch lace
Finished size: 75” x 29”
Special Stitches:
Kfb (knit into the front and back of same stitch (1 increase made)
Provisional cast on technique (aka Invisible Cast On): knot working yarn to contrasting yarn. With needle in right hand, hold knot in right hand. Tension both strands in left hand; separate the strands with fingers of the left hand. Yarn over with working yarn in front of waste yarn.
Instructions:
CO 56 sts with provisional cast on technique
Knit 2 rows
Lace pattern (multiple of 10 sts plus 6)
Row 1 (RS): K2, *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last 2 sts: k2.
Row 2: knit across
Row 3: K1, k2tog, yo, ssk, k1, *k5, k2tog, yo, ssk, k1; repeat from *
Row 4: *K2, (kfb) into the yo of previous row, k6; repeat from * end last repeat k2.
Row 5: knit across
Row 6: knit across
Row 7: K1, k2tog, yo, ssk, k1, *k5, k2tog, yo, ssk, k1; repeat from *
Row 8: *K2, (kfb) into the you of previous row, k6; repeat from * end last repeat k2.
Row 9: k6, *k2tog, yo, ssk, k6; repeat from *.
Row 10: *K7, (kfb) into the yo of previous row, k1; repeat from * to last 6 sts: k6.
Rows 11 -16: repeat rows 3 – 8 once.
Rows 17 – 240: Repeat rows 1 – 16, fourteen (14) more times
Work row 1, one more time.
Knit 2 rows even.
Ruffle:
Note: ruffle is worked in four separate pieces.
With right side facing, (k1, yo) twice into first stitch, (k1, yo) in each stitch across to last stitch, (k1, yo) twice into last stitch: 116 sts
Row 1: purl across
Row 2: knit across
Row 3 – 10: repeat rows 1 and 2 five more times
Row 11: knit across
Row 12: bind off very loosely.
On opposite end of shawl, with right side facing, while picking up each stitch from piece of string, (k1, yo) twice into first stitch, (k1, yo) into each stitch across to last stitch, (k1, yo, kfb) into last stitch: 116 sts.
Repeat rows 1 – 12 from first section of ruffle.
With right side facing, on long side of shawl, work into each elongated stitch that was created by slipping each stitch. Pick up and (k1, yo) into each stitch across to last stitch, kfb into last stitch: 245 sts
Work rows 1 – 12 from first section of ruffle.
Repeat for last long side of shawl.
Knit each ruffled seam. Weave in all loose ends. Wash, block and dry to desired size.
