(2) hanks Be So Brave Yarn; 100% pure American Merino Wool #4 medium; 120 yds (109m) per 2oz (56g);
colorway A Waves of Grain
colorway B American Beauty
US10.5 (6.5mm) tunisian crochet hook
Yarn needle
stitch marker

Gauge: 3 sts/2.5 rows = 1” in tunisian simple stitch stripe pattern

Finished sizes: 19” circumference, 10” tall

Stitch Abbreviations:

CH chain; SC single crochet; HDC half double crochet; DC double crochet; SLST slip stitch; TBL (through back loop only); RSC (reverse single crochet); YO yarn over;

Instructions:

NOTE:

Hat is worked sideways, then joined into a loop and the crown is worked last.

Row 1: with color A, ch24, insert hook and pull up a loop in 2nd loop from hook and ea loop across. — 23 loops on hook
Return: with color B, yo, pull through 1 loop, *yo, pull through 2 loops on hook. Rep from * across.

Row 2: ch1, skip 1st vertical bar, *insert hook in next vertical bar and pull up a loop, rep from * across.
Return: with color A, yo, pull through 1 loop, *yo, pull through 2 loops on hook. Rep from * across.

 

Row 3: with color A, rep row 2
Return: with color B, yo, pull through 1 loop, *yo, pull through 2 loops on hook. Rep from * across.

Rounds 8 – 42: rep row 3, except change color at every return, and make sure to end with color A.

Assembly:

With color A, slst the beginning chain to the last row worked as follows: insert hook in first vertical bar on last row and in first ch from beginning, slst through both. *insert hook in next vertical bar on last row AND in next ch on beg ch, slst through both. Rep from * across, do not fasten off.

 

Crown:

Round 1: working in the end of rows and joining into a round, ch1, sc in ea end of row, slst to join to the first st at the beginning of the round to join. — 42 scs

Round 2: ch1, *sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc in ea of next 5 sts. Rep from * around, slst to top of first st at the beginning of round to join. — 36 sts

Round 3: ch1, *sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc in ea of next 4 sts. Rep from * around, slst to top of first st at the beg of round to join. — 30 sts

Round 4: ch1, *sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc in ea of next 3 sts. Rep from * around, slst to top of first st at the beg of round to join. — 24 sts

 

Round 5: ch1, sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc in ea of next 2 sts. Rep from * around, slst to top of first st at the beg of round to join. — 18 sts

Round 6: ch1, sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc next sts. Rep from * around, slst to top of first st at the beg of round to join. — 12 sts

Round 7: ch1, sc2tog around, fasten off, leaving long tail. — 6 sts

Assembly: thread tail onto yarn needle and weave through all

sts, cinch to tighten. Secure. Weave in loose ends.
