Be So Brave Yarn Crochet Spiral Hat Free Pattern

Materials:
(2) hanks Be So Brave Yarn; 100% pure American Merino Wool
#4 medium; 120 yds (109m) per 2oz (56g);
colorway A Picket Fence
colorway B Shining Sea
US9 (5.5mm) crochet hook
Yarn needle
stitch marker

Gauge: 3.5 sts/ rounds = 1” in pattern

Finished sizes: 19 (21)” circumference, 9” tall

Stitch Abbreviations:
CH chain; SC single crochet; HDC half double crochet; DC double crochet; SLST slip stitch; TBL (through back loop only); RSC (reverse single crochet); YO yarn over;

Instructions:
Crown:
Round 1: ch5, slst to 5th ch from hook to form ring, ch1, work
1sc, 1hdc, 10dc in ring. — 12 sts
Round 2: 2dc-tbl in ea st around. — 24 sts
Round 3: *2dc-tbl in next st, 1dc-tbl in next st. Rep from *
around. — 36 sts
Round 4: *2dc-tbl in next st, 1dc-tbl in ea of next 2 sts. — 48 sts
Round 5 (larger size only): *2dc-tbl in next st, 1dc-tbl in ea of
next 3 sts. — 60 sts
Round 6 (larger size only): *2dc-tbl in next st, 1dc-tbl in ea of
next 4 sts. — 72 sts
Body of hat (both sizes):
Round 1: 1dc-tbl in ea st around. — 48 (72) sts
Rounds 2 – 12: rep round 1.
To finish off, hdc-tbl in next st, sc-tbl in next st, slst in next st.
Fasten off.
Optional piping:
With contrast color, slst to same st as you finished up the hat,
work in reverse single crochet (rsc) around last round of hat, then
continuing in a spiral, work rsc in the free loop of every stitch
back to the beginning of round 1. Fasten off. Weave in loose
ends.
Wash, block to finished measurements and let dry.
